Video: METALLICA Drummer Discusses VANS Shoe He Designed
February 23, 2013A three-and-a-half-minute clip in which new Vans team rider Pat Moore takes a few turns with METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich can be seen below. The two discuss music and the new sneaker that Lars created for Vans.
In a continuing creative partnership, Vans and METALLICA have introduced a four-piece signature collection designed by each band member delivering to stores in February. Each METALLICA member — James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo — had free rein to choose any iconic Vans shoe style and make it their own while drawing from their favorite influences in the worlds of music, action sports and art to create Vans shoes reflecting their personal style.
For his Vans shoe (see photo below),Ulrich updated the Era Laceless design with brushed twill materials and a print taken from the diamond plate pattern on his snare drum. He also added a Dirty Donny character on the inside heel of the shoe.
The shoe is available at the Metallica x Vans microsite.
In March, METALLICA will introduce the "Kill 'Em All"-themed shoes featuring the classic Slip-On and Sk8-Hi styles, each emblazoned with artwork commemorating the album's 30th anniversary.
